How to Storage Properly Fresh Herbs? 🌿

Fresh herbs like basil, cilantro, parsley, dill, and mint add a special flavor to dishes, but they can wilt quickly if not stored properly. Here are some simple yet effective tips to keep your herbs fresh for days, or even weeks!

Choose the Right Storage Method

  • Storing in Water – Herbs like basil and cilantro stay fresh longer when stored in water. Trim their stems, place them in a glass of water, and store it in the fridge (but keep basil at room temperature to prevent the leaves from browning in the cold).

Wrapping in Paper Towels – For herbs like parsley, dill, and mint, the best method is to wrap them in a damp paper towel, then place them in a resealable plastic bag or container before storing them in the fridge.

Regular Moisture Check

Check your herbs regularly, and if needed, replace the water in the glass or re-dampen the paper towel. This helps prevent drying out and keeps your herbs fresh longer.

Freezing for Long-Term Storage

If you won’t be using all the herbs soon, chop them finely and freeze them. Place the chopped herbs in an ice cube tray with a bit of water or olive oil so you can easily add them to dishes as needed.

Additional Tips:

  • Don’t wash the herbs in advance; wash them just before use to avoid mold from excess moisture.

  • Delicate herbs (like basil) can also be stored in a loose bag to limit direct exposure to air.

With these easy tricks, your herbs will stay fresh and flavorful, ready to elevate any dish! 🌱
