Historical Background:
The Hurricane cocktail was created in the 1940s at Pat O'Brien's bar in the French Quarter of New Orleans. It was originally concocted as a way to use surplus rum, which was abundant during World War II, and became an iconic drink associated with Mardi Gras and the city's festive culture.

  • Light rum

  • Dark rum

  • Passion fruit juice

  • Orange juice

  • Fresh lime juice

  • Grenadine

  • Orange slice and cherry for garnish

Ingredients:

  • 2 oz ( 6 cl) light rum

  • 2 oz (6 cl) dark rum

  • 1 oz (3 cl) passion fruit juice

  • 1 oz ( 3 cl) orange juice

  • 1/2 oz ( 1.5 cl) fresh lime juice

  • 1/2 oz ( 1.5 cl) grenadine

  • Orange slice and cherry, for garnish

  • Crushed ice


Instructions:

  1. Fill a cocktail shaker halfway with crushed ice.

  2. Pour in the light rum (2 oz or  6 cl), dark rum (2 oz or 6 cl), passion fruit juice (1 oz or 3 cl), orange juice (1 oz or 3 cl), lime juice (1/2 oz or  1.5 cl), and grenadine (1/2 oz or  1.5 cl).

  3. Shake well until the mixture is thoroughly chilled, about 15-20 seconds.

  4. Strain the cocktail into a hurricane glass filled with fresh crushed ice.

  5. Garnish with an orange slice and a cherry.

  6. Serve and enjoy your refreshing Hurricane cocktail!
